Lalan is a most famous, and possibly the most jovial of the Bengalese Bauls (mystic minstrels). As an easy rolling, roaming musician, he enjoys plenty of down time to manufacture latex gloves and compose songs about the moon, mostly. In his vast travels he often collects rubber latex from rubber trees. In places like Kerala, where coconuts are in abundance, Lalan uses the handy half shell of coconut as a collection container for the latex. If no coconuts are nearby, he stores the latex in marked plastic cups.
